Hi All,
My Names Dave G0AYD.
Thought this may be of interest to some of you..
Its a hf mobile whip covering 6-10-12-15-17-20 mtrs and at a fraction of the cost of a commercially produced one and works really well.
Ive worked all of europe plus vk zl and the other way state side and canada.
Firstly the antenna is produced for 27 mhz and is called a solar-con-triple load,it has a 3/8 thread fixing but you can buy an adapter to so239 for less than a fiver. The antenna is a mtr in length and to change bands you just change the whip ...
I borrowed the andover radio clubs *filtered*yser to set this up...
Each car has different earths so lengths may vary slightly..
Firstly i used wire from a coat hanger then transferred these onto stainless whips to make them safer i used a hot glue gun and placed a blob on the top of the whip..
Right heres the lengths im working in old money by the way.
1. 10 mtrs-2 inches.
2.12 mtrs 6.25 inches.
3.15 mtrs 11 inches.
4.17 mtrs 22.25 inches.
5.20 mtrs 48 inches.
6. 6 mtrs 17 inches.
The whip is set for mid band on either side of resonant freq it covers 100 khz and needs no atu..
Examples.
1. 28.500.
2. 24.930.
3. 21.200.
4. 18.130.
5. 14.200
6. calling freq on 6 mtrs fm.
SO IF YOU WANNA CHANGE FROM SAY 17 MTRS TO 20 MTRS JUST TAKE OUT THE 17 MTR WHIP AND PLONK THE 20 MTR ONE IN...
Ive worked vk and zl on it using my old ft 757 this has been superceeded by an ft 857d.
You can buy the antenna from most good cb shops for £16.00 plus the converter to so239.
You can buy stainless whips off ebay for a tenner delivered so for say £30.00 youve got a 6 band hf mobile whip.
Im a northerner by birth and dont part wid me br*filtered* easily but on this id say yes.
Please let me know how you get on.
If you require any further help please contact me...
DAVE G0AYD..

Hi Dave, finally got past the robot security to get onto this group!
Have you got any pictures of this antenna? I can't quite grasp which length you are changing, as it's tripple loaded, so could be one of many!
(I expect others are as confused as I am too!)
I am familiar with the CB aerial mentioned however.
I can come over one day if you want some decent quality pics if you are not in possesion of the equipment yourself.
I could also do some of the magnetic loop if you are still in possesion of it.
Regards,
Neil. |
