Hi,
My names Dave G0AYD.
Thought this may be of use.
Mag loops for the hf and lf bands..
About 15 years ago i built and used 2 mag loops for the Hf and Lf bands.
the Lf one covered 160-80-40 mtrs i used it mainly on top band 160 mtrs with good results.it was 12 foot across and supported by 2x2 timber in the form of a cross,it used a vacuum variable and a bbq motor from b&q with a 6-1 reduction drive on it,on 80 mtrs it was a great dx antenna and also on 40 but took ages for the vacuum variable to wind to resonance so it wasnt a very quick way of changing bands,i could go and make a cup of tea whilst waiting to come from 160 to 80 or 40...But it did work well.
The Lf one was tweaked by a gang of us on 160.
The hf one was a project in rad comm and i have a copy of the entire article.so i copied that.
the loops were made out of 25 mm copper pipe,i used yorkshire joints.
The antenna is not cheap due to the copper pipe but ideal for a small garden.
I have all of the information on file if there is anyone struggling with these antennae.
Let me know if you want any info.
Regards Dave G0AYD..
